Tejo area recognises Serras terroir – Drinks Worldwide


Becoming a member of Tejo’s current three recognised terroirs, Bairro, Campo and Charneca, Serras is the oldest by way of winery age.

The brand new terroir has been named Serras translating to mountains in English, to replicate its mountainous nature, with vineyards planted on slopes and plateaus, and a better common altitude than the opposite terroirs of 232 metres. 

Overlaying simply 375 hectares, Serras is dwelling to a number of the oldest vineyards in Tejo with a median planting 12 months of 1978. 

The soil is predominantly poor, stony and well-drained, with schist and granite, leading to resilient vines, deeper root methods, balanced development and naturally low yields in comparison with the regional common.

“The brand new Serras terroir displays Tejo’s dedication to innovation, sustainability and variety, whereas staying true to our wealthy and genuine winemaking heritage. Serras has a huge impact on the wines, contributing magnificence and minerality, good construction and vibrant pure acidity, and consequently a powerful ageing potential,” stated Luis de Castro, president of the area’s wine affiliation, CVR Tejo.

“From relative obscurity to rising star, Tejo is now more and more on the worldwide wine agenda as a supply of distinctive kinds with alluring freshness and distinctive worth in any respect worth factors,” added de Castro.
